about

"Solstice" kicks off the album as the first track on "To the Oceans Above." Beginning with a memory of a midsummer sundown, Routon ponders how the positive thoughts on the summer solstice have little effect on solving problems that hold at every turn. With a steadfast chorus declaring "...You know who I am now..." Brother Kestrel establishes a manifesto that the only way to make it through is with the one he loves.

lyrics

[Verse 1]
Longer daylight hours
But still not enough time
All these nights were ours
How much longer ‘til you are mine?
When I lost all hope
I thought for sure that you would leave me
Exorcise my ghosts
And let me promise to redeem it

[Chorus]
You know who I am now
And you know where I’ve been
So please understand
There’s only way to win
It’s with you

[Verse 2]
Gone but not forgotten
Like waves on an empty shore
I think of you so often
Of that you can be sure
“How long until we’re free?”
The question echoes in the silence
“Can you stay with me
To see the sun on the horizon?”

[Chorus]
You know who I am now
And you know where I’ve been
So please understand
There’s only one way to win
It’s with you

[Bridge]
When there’s no hiding it
These fears will bury it
I’ll fight to my last breath
This future is not set

[Chorus]
You know who I am now
And you know where I’ve been
So please understand
There’s only one way to win
I know who I am now
And I know how it’s been
Now I understand
There’s only one way to win
There’s only one way to win
It’s with you
With you
With you
